Scientific Monday: Water

I chose to do science on Mondays. I figure whatever science topic we are talking about I will plan some type of experiment for and we will do that on Mondays at the start of our week to in some way kick it off on a good note. Today I pulled out our science kit which comes with 10 experiments that deal with water in some way. I chose Sink or Float, Shiny Pennies, and Volcano. Here are some pics of our science today!

This is Isaiah being silly...he was waiting on his pennies to come out of the lemon juice.

Shiny Pennies:
-water
-lemon juice
-dirty pennies
-small lidded containers
*Fill your lidded containers about half full with lemon juice, add some pennies, close and shake let sit 10-15 minutes. In another container add water and add some pennies, close, shake and again wait for 10-15 minutes. Ask the kids which they believe with come out cleaner, after the wait is over, pull out the pennies and compare them side by side. Below is a photo of our pennies. The right just sat in water, the left was in the lemon juice {came out much cleaner due to the acid}.

Volcano:
-Glass jar or beaker
-Baking Soda
-Vinegar
-Red Food Coloring
-Spoon for mixing
-Dropper
-Paper towels or a dish towel or two
*Add a half cup of water to your glass jar or beaker, mix in 2 spoonfuls of baking soda and stir well, place on top of paper towels or dish towels to prevent a huge mess.
*In another cup add vinegar {your guess, I did half of a kids cup so about 4oz} and 5-10 drops of red food coloring, mix well.
*Take your dropper and fill with the red vinegar and squeeze into glass jar/beaker with the soda water.
*Watch what happens!

If you try any of these leave a comment of your thoughts after you do the experiments(:
Happy Monday Ya'll...
