Career Studies for 5th Grade

One of the funnest ages of homeschooling is when your kids become independent learners, they start to really think about life and have deep conversations with you. My daughter is almost at that point, she has started sharing a lot about what she wants to do with her life and what she wants to be when she grows up. This coming year I am going to throw in little career studies for my oldest to introduce her to all the different types of jobs out there including her favorites who are scientists.

The above list I found on Kids Gov; it lists neat jobs and some have videos the kids can watch from that job. For Scientists type studies she will be using a wonderful list from Famous Scientists; I like that the list is alphabetical and that on the left hand side of the screen you can click the name of the person your interested in and get a biography of the person and what they found or did that changed history/science. With the reports she will have 1-2 weeks to study whatever or whomever she chose, gather books from the library, do research on the computer, and watch videos via the web based on that topic or person. I am planning to make report checklist for her to follow as well of what I am looking for in her report.

Of course we all know that we want to be everything and do everything, so I am sure her interests will change along the way but its a fun way to introduce her to various people and careers that are out there.
