40 Days of Decrease | A Different Kind of Hunger. A Different Kind of Fast. | Alicia Britt Chole

40 Days of Decrease:  A Different Kind of Hunger. A Different Kind of Fast. is a book Alicia Britt Chole based upon the fasting of Lent; however the author makes it a point to say this book can be done at any point during the year.

The book goes through the 40 days of decrease around Lent, basically going without something whether it be your typical food, to tv shows, to spending money, you name it, you can go without it for the fast; however, she gives you a different "fast" for each day of the book which I really like because its based more on your character rather than the physical which most people tend to focus on. I also really like that you can use this in conjunction with your Bible as a Bible study and do it as a group with friends or family.

Days 1-40 as follows:
  1. Lent as a Project
  2. Regrets
  3. Collecting Praise
  4. Artificial Light
  5. Tidy Faith
  6. Speeding Past Sorrow
  7. A Meal
  8. Fixing It
  9. Rationalism
  10. Avoidance
  11. Religious Profiling
  12. Isolation
  13. Stinginess
  14. Spectatorship
  15. Spiritual Self Protection
  16. Halos
  17. Apathy
  18. Appearances
  19. Revisionism
  20. Leavened Bread
  21. Premature Resolution
  22. Sound
  23. Armchair Jesus
  24. Neutrality
  25. Denial
  26. Comparison
  27. Discontentment
  28. Formulas
  29. Intimidation
  30. Self Confidence
  31. Mocking Jesus
  32. Addition
  33. Willful Sin
  34. Criticism
  35. God as Job
  36. Withholding
  37. Your Voice
  38. Escapism
  39. Guarding Tombs
  40. Fasting

The chapters are short and each is divided into different parts; Day One, Reflection, Today's Fast, On Lent, & Today's Reading; there is also a space for you to write down things if you want too.

Overall I really like this book; while it is written for Lent, I do feel you could do it at anytime during the year because its a good study so to speak.
